Prosecutors yesterday confirmed they had interviewed former Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) chairman Lien Chan (連戰) about his use of a state affairs fund and special allowances during his terms as vice president and Cabinet minister.
Chen Yun-nan (陳雲南), spokesman for the Supreme Prosecutors Office's Special Investigation Panel, said prosecutors questioned Lien and his wife, Lien Fang Yu (連方瑀), early this month.
Chen said prosecutors asked Lien how he used his state affairs fund during his term as vice president from 1996 and 2000, and his use of special allowance funds when he served as premier and in other Cabinet posts.
Prosecutors could soon interview KMT vice presidential candidate Vincent Siew (蕭萬長) about his use of special allowance funds during his term as premier between 1997 to 2000 and minister of economic affairs, Chen said.
