The Penghu County government has come up with incentives aimed at encouraging travel agencies to bring more foreign tourists to the outlying island, a county government spokesman said yesterday. According to Penghu Tourism Bureau Director Hung Tung-lin (洪棟霖), the county government has allocated NT$600,000 (US$18,000) to promote the program, which is designed to increase the island's profile among foreign tourists. Travel agencies will be given monetary incentives ranging from NT$1,000 per tourist to NT$150,000 per tour group, depending on the number of foreign tourists and scale of tour they have organized to Penghu, Hung said. He expressed the hope that the program would help push local tour operators to organize more international charter flights to Penghu on a regular basis.
