The Graduate School of Human Sexuality of Shu Te University in Kaohsiung County is organizing a new doctoral program and is scheduled to begin recruiting candidates for the program in May.
The head of the graduate school, Lin Yien-chin (林燕卿), made the announcement at a news conference on Saturday in Taipei. It is also the only institute in Asia offering academic degrees in sexology.
Introducing the institute, Lin said that efforts are being taken to forge cooperation with worldwide leaders in the field of sex research, including the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction in the US state of Indiana, and the University of Chicago's department of sociology.
Research topics at the Shu Te graduate school also include sexual medicine, feminism, therapy for sexual and psychological disorders, sexual abuse of children and reproduction medicine. The institute is working to build a sexuality data bank for the nation's population within two years, according to Lin.
Entrance tests for the doctoral program will be held on May 27 and 28, with three candidates to be chosen for the program. Detailed information is available at the Shu Te University Web site at www.hsi.stu.edu.tw.

The base is also a response to the “irregular presence this month of armed” of China Coast Guard vessels frequenting the Bashi Channel in the Luzon Strait just south of Taiwan, the paper reported, citing a
