The probe into the attack on President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) on the eve of the March 20 presidential election has stalled, a spokesman for the Tainan District Prosecutors' Office said yesterday.

Pointing out that 114 out of the 127 tips collected by the task force have been ruled on as having no link to the shooting, Kuo said that the Tainan prosecution authorities are currently engaged in reconstructing the incident and tracing the many Chen supporters who were filmed near the scene of the shooting by TV crews.
Kuo also said that the task force had not yet read a preliminary report on work carried out by a team of three forensic experts from the US that visited Tainan City last week to search for evidence. The team was sent by Henry Lee (李昌鈺) -- a world-renowned forensic scientist who will travel to Taiwan later this month to participate in the investigation.
Lee was invited by State Public Prosecutor-General Lu Ren-fa (盧仁發) to assist in the investigation at the request of the opposition "pan-blue alliance," which claims that the presidential election was unfair and has demanded a recount and an independent committee to investigate the shooting.
Three Taiwanese airlines have prohibited passengers from packing Bluetooth earbuds and their charger cases in checked luggage. EVA Air and Uni Air said that Bluetooth earbuds and charger cases are categorized as portable electronic devices, which should be switched off if they are placed in checked luggage based on international aviation safety regulations. They must not be in standby or sleep mode. However, as charging would continue when earbuds are placed in the charger cases, which would contravene international aviation regulations, their cases must be carried as hand luggage, they said. Tropical Storm Fung-Wong would likely strengthen into a typhoon later today as it continues moving westward across the Pacific before heading in Taiwan’s direction next week, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. As of 8am, Fung-Wong was about 2,190km east-southeast of Cape Oluanpi (鵝鑾鼻), Taiwan’s southernmost point, moving westward at 25kph and possibly accelerating to 31kph, CWA data showed.
