Ma won the mayoral race four years ago by a narrow margin over Chen. Ma's victory was partly attributed to Lee Teng-hui's support, who was then president and KMT chairman.
The retired president, however, has switched his support to Lee Ying-yuan and publicly expressed disappointment over Ma's record.
In April, several TSU members attempted to persuade Annie Lee to run for Taipei mayor, but she rejected the idea.
"We need a better mayor. I am really looking for changes in our city," Annie Lee said at that time.

A government official who wished to remain anonymous said yesterday that as the US customs law explicitly prohibits the importation of goods made using forced labor, in 2021 it passed the specialized UFLPA to limit the importation of cotton and other goods from China’s Xinjiang Uyghur region.
