The EDA Rhinos led the Lamigo Monkeys 9-3 as of press time last night at the Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium.
Mike Loree threw five effective innings of two-run ball on seven hits against the first-half champs to take a slim lead and watched his bullpen mates came through in a big way by holding a potent Lamigo lineup scoreless for three innings to preserve what was expected to be his ninth win of the season.
Yang Kuan-wei’s two-out single off Lamigo starter Jared Lansford with men on first and second gave the visitors a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first. However, the advantage lasted less than an inning as the hosts answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first when Lin Chih-ping doubled off Loree and scored two batters later on an RBI groundout by Lin “Chubby Kid” Hung-yu to even things up at 1-all.
The Primates actually took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second on the strength of three singles off their former teammate, only to see Lansford return the favor in the top of the third when Kao Kuo-hui drilled a double into the left-center gap and scored on a wild throw to third after he took third on a wild pitch by Lansford.
The scored remained 2-all until the top of the fifth, with the Rhinos retaking a 3-2 lead on the merit of Lin Yi-chuan’s two-out double that scored the runner from second.
Lin went on to drive in three more runs to account for five of his team’s total offense on the night. His four-hit effort also upped his average to .356 for the season.
In tonight’s contest, the Primates will take on the Uni-President Lions at home this evening to try to bounce back from last night’s tough loss to jumpstart the three-day weekend on a high note.
Even though they have already clinched the first-half title, a sellout crowd of 10,000-plus is expected to cheer on the home team at in Taoyuan, where an impressive fireworks show follows every home victory.

Ferrand-Prevot looked set to win the stage, but the Frenchwoman attacked too early from 600m and could not withstand the late surge from Vos, who punched the air with her left fist as she crossed the line. Moments later, Vos hugged an exhausted-looking Ferrand-Prevot, the Paris-Roubaix winner. “I didn’t know if
