Lee Chia-chui’s sacrifice fly with a runner on third scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth as the EDA Rhinos held on to defeat the Uni-President Lions 7-6 at the Sinjhuang Baseball Stadium in New Taipei City last night.
The win evened the weekend series between the teams at one win apiece as they look to clinch the series at the Taipei Municipal Baseball Stadium this afternoon.
In a sloppy game of five errors which led to six unearned runs, the Cats drew first blood with a run off Rhino starter Matt Torra in the bottom of the second.
However, the lead was short-lived as the Rhinos fought back with a pair of runs in the top of the third with three singles off Lion starter Pan “Du Du” Wei-lung to take a 2-1 advantage.
The teams piled on four runs each in an explosive fifth that featured 11 combined hits for 14 total bases to keep the margin at a lone run, which proved decisive.
Picking up the win for the Rhinos was Juan Morillo, who entered with one out in the eighth in relief of Lin Ying-jeh and kept the damage to a run before tossing a scoreless ninth.
Tagged with the loss was Lion reliever Lin Yueh-ping, who gave up the game-winner in the final frame to drop to 2-4 for the year.
