Daiei Hawks blank Lotte Marines with 21-0 batting clinic

Catcher Kenji Jojima drove in five runs yesterday as the Daiei Hawks cruised to a 21-0 pounding of the struggling Lotte Marines.

Jojima highlighted a nine-run second inning at Chiba Marine Stadium with a three-run homer as the Hawks chased Lotte starter Satoru Komiyama from the game.

Former New York Mets pitcher Komiyama, who gave up 11 runs on 11 hits over 1-2/3 innings to take the loss, is bidding to make a comeback after sitting out the 2003 season.

Munenori Kawasaki, Nobuhiko Matsunaka and Yukio Deguchi also homered for the Hawks.

Daiei starter Nagisa Arakaki held the Marines to five hits while striking out 10 over the distance to pick up the win as the Hawks handed Bobby Valentine's team their sixth loss in a row.

At Yahoo BB Stadium, outfielder Yoshitomo Tani went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Orix BlueWave to an 8-7 win over the Nippon Ham Fighters.

Tani connected for a two-run homer in the first inning off Carlos Mirabal. He drove in another run on a single to left in the fourth inning.

Fernando Seguignol, who went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs, hit his Pacific League-leading 17th homer in the fourth.

Motoyanagi picked up the win after giving up two runs on eight hits over five innings.
