New York Rangers goalie Mike Dunham and Buffalo Sabres center Chris Drury were among 17 players named Friday to the US team for this month's world championship.
"We're very pleased with those who have accepted our invitation, and we have a high number players who want to be a part of the USA hockey program," said Team USA general manager Don Waddell.
"This year's IIHF men's world championship will be a key tournament for the future of USA Hockey, and we're glad that players have realized the importance."
Much more than a gold medal will be riding on this year's tournament, scheduled for April 24 to May 9 in the Czech Republic, with the top eight teams securing automatic berths for the Winter Olympics.
Unlike last year when the US relied on minor netminder leaguer Ryan Miller and finished 13th, the Americans appear strong in goal with Dunham, a member of the US silver medal winning team at the Salt Lake Olympics, and Edmonton Oilers Ty Conklin fighting for the starting assignment.
