Hsinchu City Government will hold an activity called “Hsinchu Hackathon — Hack Hsinchu City” on Nov. 28 and 29. This will be the first-ever hackathon contest to be held around the theme of new designs for a city government’s official Web site. Mayor Lin Chih-chien announced the launch of the activity at the Residence of Hsin Chih-ping on Monday last week.
Hsinchu City Government’s Department of General Affairs says that the word “hackathon” is a portmanteau of the words “hack” and “marathon,” and it means that it is going to hold a “marathon technological creativity contest.” The organizers are going to send out “hero invitations,” broadly inviting network wizards to take part in redesigning the government’s official Web site. By combining civic resources and creativity in holding this 33-hour-long marathon contest, they want to make the official Web site more lively and diverse.
Lin said that the city government’s Web site has not been renewed in the nearly 11 years since it was first set up in 2005, so the authorities hope, by means of this competition, to pick the best and most innovative design team for the official Web site, and the one that is most representative of Hsinchu City Government, so that its official Web site can become a model for other counties and cities.

Let’s explore another delicacy primarily known to Tainan locals: floating milkfish in thick soup. Despite its peculiar name, this dish is another Tainan specialty that showcases the popularity of milkfish, which is made into fish paste and served in thick soup. Unlike the version with tutuo fish, which also adds other ingredients to its thick soup, the floating milkfish version primarily features the “floating fish” itself in its thick soup, ensuring that the fish paste remains the star of the dish. peculiar (adj.) 獨特的;古怪的 The belly of a milkfish is considered the most
The practice of freezing embryos as part of in vitro fertilization (IVF) was thrown into chaos in Alabama this year, when the state supreme court ruled that such embryos should be considered children, exposing clinics to wrongful death claims in the event they are destroyed in the thawing process. In 2021, more than 80 percent of US IVF procedures involved the transfer of frozen embryos, according to a recent report by the US Department of Health and Human Services.
