Following the death of a 78-year-old grandmother, a memorial service was held on April 12 at Keelung City Mortuary Service Office. At 9:30am, the body was moved from the building’s third floor to the second floor to be taken for cremation. The woman’s 30 family members divided into two groups and boarded two cargo elevators, with three people accompanying the casket while the other 27 boarded the other elevator.
It is understood that the down-buttons in the elevators were pressed at the same time and that the doors were also closed at the same time. The elevator carrying the casket arrived at the second floor 10 seconds later, but the three people accompanying it waited in vain for the other elevator door to open. They soon discovered that the other elevator was stuck between the second and third floors with the 27 family members trapped inside, so they scrambled to alert the office staff.
Mortuary Service Office manager Kuo Wen-pin contacted the elevator maker, Fuji Sun Rise Mechanical Engineering Co., and asked them to come to the maintenance room to restart the elevator. Three attempts were made, but all met with failure. The elevator company promised they would have a specialist rushed over to handle the problem within half an hour. However, the trapped family members were already starting to get agitated.

At 10:05am, a 15-year-old junior high school girl surnamed Huang became short of breath. This may have been caused by rising temperatures and poor air quality in the elevator, made worse by the nervous mood of the people inside. Firefighters forcibly pried the door open and discovered that the elevator had stopped 50cm above the second floor. After they rescued everyone one at a time, Huang was taken to the hospital, where it was found that she had not suffered any serious injuries. However, the incident caused the funeral service to be delayed by an hour.
The family members who were trapped later said that everyone was very scared when the elevator stopped, and that some older people deliberately tried to ease the tension by joking that “Grandma was watching over us.”

Let’s explore another delicacy primarily known to Tainan locals: floating milkfish in thick soup. Despite its peculiar name, this dish is another Tainan specialty that showcases the popularity of milkfish, which is made into fish paste and served in thick soup. Unlike the version with tutuo fish, which also adds other ingredients to its thick soup, the floating milkfish version primarily features the “floating fish” itself in its thick soup, ensuring that the fish paste remains the star of the dish. peculiar (adj.) The belly of a milkfish is considered the most

The practice of freezing embryos as part of in vitro fertilization (IVF) was thrown into chaos in Alabama this year, when the state supreme court ruled that such embryos should be considered children, exposing clinics to wrongful death claims in the event they are destroyed in the thawing process. In 2021, more than 80 percent of US IVF procedures involved the transfer of frozen embryos, according to a recent report by the US Department of Health and Human Services. HOW IS EMBRYO FREEZING USED IN IVF? IVF uses high doses of hormones to stimulate ovaries to produce as many eggs as possible. Once
