New York City has thought up a new and interesting way to celebrate the New Year. The New York City sanitation department and a business group will help people shred their bad 2007 memories.

For one hour on Dec. 28, participants can say goodbye to everything from photos of ex-lovers to bad report cards. Shredders will be set up in the Times Square Visitors Center for people who have things they want to get rid of.

Recycling bins will be available for items that cannot be shredded. Those things might include strange clothes, annoying CDs or chocolate chip cookies. The organizers say they will also provide paper for people to write down memories they wish would go away.

A prize of $250 (NT$8,100) will be given to the person considered most creative at letting go of his or her bad memories.(STAFF WRITER, WITH AP)
