The journey of Taiwan’s badminton mixed doubles duo Ye Hong-wei and Nicole Chan at the Malaysia Masters in Kuala Lumpur came to an end in the semi-finals yesterday after they suffered a 2-0 loss to China’s Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping.
Ye, 25, and Chan, 20, teamed up last year and are currently ranked No. 23 in the world.
The Taiwanese shuttlers took on China’s second seeds in the mixed doubles event, but proved no match for Feng and Huang, losing the match 10-21, 7-21.

In the first half of the first game, the pairings were neck and neck at 6-7 until Ye and Chan lost focus and seven consecutive points.
While the Taiwanese shuttlers found their footing again after falling behind 6-14, they were unable to bridge the gap and lost the game.
In the second game, the Taiwanese shuttlers fell behind early to their Chinese opponents at 3-11.
Once again, they left themselves too much to do, and the match concluded with Feng and Huang winning the second game.
Yesterday’s match was the second time the pairings have faced off in recent weeks, following a game last week at the Thailand Open in Bangkok, which the Chinese shuttlers also won.

The Daredevils yesterday took eight catches in the final as they eked out a victory in the Taiwan Cricket Triangular Tournament against PCCT at Yingfeng Cricket Ground in Taipei’s Songshan District. This year’s Taiwan Athletics Open, which offers Taiwanese athletes an opportunity to compete against their international peers, would be held under a new name after its organizers had earlier announced the event’s cancelation.
