    Myanmar's embassies target of protests

Hundreds of people protested outside Myanmar's embassy in Bangkok yesterday for a second straight day against a bloody crackdown by the country's military regime, Thai police said.

Holding posters of detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, the 300-strong crowd, mainly students from Myanmar, chanted "Free Burma." Some held placards demanding "Free political prisoners" and "Stop killing the people."

They wore red T-shirts and headbands in honor of monks who led rallies in Myanmar last month.

Bangkok police captain Phongsak Jong-itthi said protesters dispersed after about an hour.

Dozens of people, mostly Thai, had gathered in front of the embassy on Saturday.

In South Korea yesterday, about 30 Burmese, many of them wearing red headbands, rallied against the crackdown outside their embassy in Seoul, demanding the release of Aung San Suu Kyi.

Protesters held coordinated demonstrations against Myanmar's crackdown on Saturday, with thousands gathering in London and smaller groups rallying in Sydney, Stockholm, Paris and elsewhere.

"Burma is not a human rights emergency of today, last week or last month. It is a human rights emergency that the world has chosen to forget for the last 20 years," Amnesty International's secretary-general Irene Khan said.
