Lien Hui-hsin takes legal action against magazine

By Jimmy Chuang  /  STAFF REPORTER

Lien Hui-hsin (連惠心), Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Lien Chan's (連戰) daughter, filed a libel suit against Next Magazine yesterday for its story claiming to have letters of hers complaining of her father's wife-beating.

Lien Hui-hsin was in Tainan earlier yesterday to participate in a jogging activity held by the KMT to campaign for her father.

She rushed back to Taipei to file the suit after she was informed that the magazine published the story.

Lien Hui-hsin said the story had been made up, adding it was not her handwriting.

"This is absurd and ridiculous. I never had such a friend whom the coverage mentioned. In addition, it is very easy to tell whether it is my handwriting or not," she said.

In addition to the libel suit, which is considered a private prosecution, Lien said she will file a civil claim against the magazine. She said she has not decided on the amount for the claim.

"I will announce the amount that I am seeking after a conversation with my lawyer," she said. "But, trust me, it will be a lot."
