Thanksgiving Day falls on the fourth Thursday of November, which this year is Nov. 22. Following on from Thanksgiving, there are the culinary traditions of Christmas. Enjoying a sumptuous meal of something roasted, often a turkey or a ham is traditional, and many hotels have commenced their offering of festive hampers. To make sure you get exactly what you want, it’s best to get your orders in early. These are a couple of options:

From now until Dec. 28, The Deli at Sheraton Taipei Hotel is offering the pre-order of three types of Festival takeout hampers, including the Roasted Turkey Hamper, Roasted Beef Hamper and the Roasted Virginia Ham Hamper. Each hamper is priced at NT$2,800 with a special recommendation on the super value Roasted Turkey Combo Hamper priced at NT$3,800, with California pear pie, cornbread stuffing with pumpkin and chestnuts, sweet potatoes in maltose sauce, French garlic baguette, garden salad with Caesar dressing and Tex-Mex sweet corn and tomato salsa. Full payment for pre-orders made before Nov. 30 will receive a 10 percent discount.

For the roast turkey, The Deli at Sheraton Taipei Hotel has especially chosen imported US turkeys weighing 6kg each. The turkey is first marinated with more than 10 different spices for 24 hours and then baked until the skin turns golden and crispy.

Customers may pick up their hampers from now until Dec. 31. To ensure the quality of the food, the hotel suggests ordering three days prior to picking up their hampers. Call The Deli at the Sheraton Taipei Hotel reservation hotline at (02) 2321-5858 ext. 8373.

Le Meridian Taipei offers a turkey hamper (NT$3,200) and a ham hamper (NT$2,800) that will serve equally well for Thanksgiving or Christmas. These are available together with a pecan pie or pumpkin pie for an additional NT$600. Orders can be placed from now until Dec. 21, with pick-up any time until Dec. 24. Le Meridian’s turkey hamper includes a 5.4kg turkey which has been cooked in a slow oven, subtly flavored with olive oil and vegetable stock. Two exciting variations on traditional sauces are offered, including a raspberry sauce and a truffle sauce. The ham is a 3.2kg Virginia ham, which comes with potatoes, Brussels sprouts and mustard sauce.

The Landis, Taipei also has a traditional turkey hamper (NT$3,650), which includes a 15cm pumpkin pie to add to the festive cheer. The Landis provides a 6kg American turkey with a special stuffing of French bread, nuts and other good things enriched with butter and cream. The turkey comes with two types of vegetables. Once again, orders must be made three days in advance, and can be placed from now until Dec. 29, with pick up anytime until Jan 1, 2013. Call (02) 2598-5558.
