It’s almost a tradition for expats in Taiwan to eat out or order takeout for Thanksgiving.
For some, though, part of the fun is spending the day in the kitchen preparing a meal for friends and family. If you like to prepare your own, Costco has frozen 10 pound (around 4.5kg) turkeys for NT$699 each. Supplies are limited, so it’s best to call your local store first. Phone numbers for Costco outlets can be found at www.costco.com.tw.
Another option is Thomas Meat, which offers frozen turkeys weighing between 5kg and 9kg, and priced from NT$875 to NT$1,575. Precooked frozen turkeys are also available for NT$1,950. The distributor’s store is easy to access on public transport — it’s located near Exit 4 of Wanlong MRT Station (萬隆捷運站). Thomas Meat also delivers countrywide, with free shipping for orders of NT$3,000 or more. More information can be found at www.thomasmeat.com.tw or by calling (02) 2932-3807 X217.

For those who want to brush up on their turkey technique, the University of Illinois Extension school has a well-organized and advertisement-free Web site: urbanext.illinois.edu/turkey. This is a good place to start if you’ve never prepared a Thanksgiving meal before, and the site contains practical cooking tips as well as facts and trivia about the venerable bird.

Across the government supporters of the expedition resigned immediately. The spectacle of revolt by disaffected samurai began to loom over Japanese politics. In January of 1874 disaffected samurai attacked a senior minister in Tokyo. April 22 to April 28 The true identity of the mastermind behind the Demon Gang (魔鬼黨) was undoubtedly on the minds of countless schoolchildren in late 1958. In the days leading up to the big reveal, more than 10,000 guesses were sent to Ta Hwa Publishing Co (大華文化社) for a chance to win prizes. The smash success of the comic series Great Battle Against the Demon Gang (大戰魔鬼黨) came as a surprise to author Yeh Hung-chia (葉宏甲), who had long given up on his dream after being jailed for 10 months in 1947 over political cartoons.
