A war epic with peacenik pretensions

Having prepared to make the big-screen adaptation of a Japanese comic 10 years ago, director Cheung has finally realized his wish with the film's multi-national production team. Though not without narrative flaws and aesthetic deficiencies, the film is a sincere attempt to make a timely reflection on war and peace.
