AXD, the purists' choice, is up first this week because of the bizarre nature of the party that will no doubt rock the rafters tomorrow night: a CD launch party for Madonna's latest album Confessions on a Dancefloor.
Earlier this week, Sharon Osbourne, wife of the self-styled prince of darkness Ozzy Osbourne, launched into a tirade against "Madge" after she stole the show at last week's MTV Europe Music Awards in Lisbon.
"It's like dressing up with her. One day you're in fucking gun gear, then you're in horsing gear, then you dress like a fucking dyke, then you dress like a hooker, then you're in a flowery dress reading kids' poetry looking like a fucking librarian -- then you're back looking like an old hooker again."
A new album from someone with a vinyl pedigree like Madonna, and someone who can rile "Shazza" so much, has got to be worth checking out.
Tickets for "The Wonderland" party are NT$600 in advance (check www.axd-taipei.com for outlets), or if punters follow the peach or glitter dress code it's NT$400 on the door.
Tonight it's ladies night at Eden and the club is introducing fresh talent. Last week it was J-Ro and this week it will be the debut of Stylus. Tomorrow it's The Beat Symposium's One Year Anniversary Party. DJs SL, Saucey, Zoltan, 006, Declan, D'Jones, and the Beat Symposium crew will be offering up a mixed bag of tunes from both sides of the Atlantic.
MoS will be bringing a little bit of Balearic sunshine to Taiwan with Isaac Indart tonight and Clive Henry tomorrow. Indart has been a Balearic circuit pro for the past 14 years with progressive, tribal and tech sounds. Henry, one half of the Peace Division team that is widely respected on the UK clubbing scene, has produced underground music under a dizzying array of monikers and regularly spins at Fabric and The End in London.
Heading down south, Urban Funk All Stars are starting up a new party tomorrow night in Taichung with funk being the name of the game -- from hip-hop to soul through drum 'n' bass. 2 Hands and Alex D will be scratching it up at the Grooveyard (2F, 105 Huamei W Road, above Frog). A new venue with drum 'n' bass, MCs and scratching, this gig looks fun, however, the rub is it's supposed to end at 2am.
Last, but by no means least, is Sasha who will touch down in Taipei on his "Fundacion Tour," an apt name for a tour by one of the world's highest paid spinmeisters. Remember Sasha's 2003 New Year's Eve bash at the World Trade Center Hall 3?
The Vinyl Word does -- top draw ticket prices for a bottom draw show. Police busts, a dodgy sound system that got swallowed up in the cavernous hall and superstar temper tantrums all combined to ensure that 2002 went out with a whimper, and not a bang. Tickets for tomorrow night's party at Luxy are NT$900 all night.
The Vinyl Word -- Madge or Shazza?
