About 52.5 percent of office workers nationwide have had negative experiences with their employers after submitting their resignations, according to a recent survey.
About 58 percent of the respondents said their companies used an inability to hire a replacement as a reason to require that they work additional days, while 29 percent said they were mocked by their superiors or bosses, according to a survey by online job bank yes123 released on Wednesday.
Twenty-five percent of respondents said their workloads were suddenly increased prior to their last day of employment and 17.6 percent said their salaries were paid later than expected, the survey found.
Among the 86.8 percent of respondents who said they had resigned from a previous job, 25.5 percent did not tell their employers why they were leaving and only 7.8 chose to give a complete explanation.
As for the timing of turning in a resignation, 54.5 percent of respondents said they resigned after they secured another job, about 31.7 percent said they did so after starting to look for a new job, while 13.8 percent said they chose to resign before starting to look for a new job.
Two-thirds of the companies surveyed (66.7 percent) said they conducted exit interviews with employees, but only one out of five of the employees (20.9 percent) opted to keep their jobs.
The survey found that it took an average of 2.7 months to recruit a new hire to fill a regular vacancy and about 3.4 months to fill a leading position.
Yes123 spokesperson Yang Tsung-pin (楊宗斌) said the survey findings indicate that office workers who are resigning should maintain a positive attitude toward their current jobs, fulfill their duties, maintain good interpersonal relationships and stand up for their employment rights until they leave.
The survey was conducted between Jan. 5 and Jan. 12 among yes123 members who had been employed for more than a year. It collected 975 valid responses, and had a confidence level of 95 percent with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.14 percentage points.
A total of 696 valid responses were collected from companies.
