The Hsinchu Science Park set a monthly record for exports last month, with NT$62.07 billion (US$1.88 billion), on a boom in the integrated circuit (IC) and optoelectronics sectors.
Hsinchu Science Park Administration officials said the amount represents a growth of 7.8 percent over the previous month and an increase of 24.3 percent over the same month last year.
Officials said IC sector exports last month totaled NT$28.26 billion, up 2.1 percent from the previous month. Exports in the optoelectronics sector, meanwhile, totaled NT$26.1 billion for the same period, up 16.2 percent from July.
Exports from the two major sectors accounted for 87.6 percent of the park's total exports, making them the prime movers behind the continued growth of the park.
The officials said that park exports in the first eight months of this year totaled NT$410.87 billion, up 11 percent from the same period last year.
Among the major industrial sectors represented in the park, the optoelectronics sector recorded the best performance, with exports totaling NT$143.25 billion in the first eight months, up 82.65 percent from the same period last year.
The IC sector, however, still recorded the largest exports in the park, at NT$208.42 billion in the first eight months, down 6.99 percent from the same period last year.
Flat-panel displays had the best performance in the optoelectronics sector, recording exports of NT$130.89 billion in the first eight months of this year, up 98 percent from the same period last year.
This sector surpassed chip manufacturing, which recorded exports at NT$128.89 billion, to become the largest sub-sector in the park.
In terms of export destinations, Asia remained the major export destination. Exports to Asia totaled NT$311.68 billion in the first eight months, up 3.69 percent from the same period last year. Exports to Europe totaled NT$35.8 billion in the first eight months, up 42.4 percent from the same period last year, surpassing the NT$34.59 billion to North America to become the second largest export destination.
Exports to Central America totalled NT$24.21 billion in the first eight months of this year, an annual 2.81-fold increase, making it the region in which the park had enjoyed the greatest growth.
