A 50-year-old woman surnamed Chao (趙) was shot by a gunman who police believe to be her estranged husband at about 2pm today while walking near Shuiyuan Road, Lane 29 in Taipei.
Chao was shot once in the chest and once in the hand.
Despite sustaining severe injuries, she remained conscious and was rushed to National Taiwan University Hospital for emergency treatment.

Chao had just left her home to run errands this afternoon when she was attacked by a man completely covered in a raincoat, police said.
She collapsed on the spot, and bystanders immediately called the authorities, police said, adding that officers recovered two spent shell casings at the scene.
The shooter fled in a vehicle immediately after opening fire, investigators said.
Police have obtained the vehicle's registration details and are tracking the car to find the suspect.
A preliminary police investigation suggests her estranged husband, surnamed Chen (陳), is involved in the shooting, and efforts are underway to track him down, police said.
Based on evidence gathered so far, investigators found that Chao and Chen had been separated for a long time and frequently argued over relationship issues.
