The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency yesterday unveiled new uniforms for national forest recreation area staff that are made using oyster shells and recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, combining functionality, aesthetics and sustainability.
The agency partnered with oqLiq, a Taiwan-based clothing brand, to design the uniforms, giving frontline staff at national forest recreation areas a more comfortable and recognizable appearance, the agency said in a statement.
The new uniforms took nearly a year and a half to plan and produce, with oqLiq involved from design and fabric development to manufacturing, it said.

The redesign is not just an update to the uniforms, but an effort to integrate environmental sustainability into every detail, the agency said.
For the shirts, part of the fabric uses oyster yarn, which is made from oyster shells and recycled PET bottles, reducing marine waste and making the clothing antibacterial and anti-static, it said.
The spring-summer shirts also use Lyocell fiber derived from wood pulp, which is soft, skin-friendly, breathable, cool and environmentally friendly, the agency said.
The polyester fibers used in the jackets are also made from recycled materials, reducing environmental impact and implementing sustainability principles in everyday frontline services, it added.
The new uniforms incorporate the curved lines and colors of the agency’s emblem, with spring–summer clothing and year-round jackets using blue-green tones that blend with the forest, while autumn-winter wear features forest green with warm-toned outerwear to add warmth and visibility in mountain environments and improve recognition of staff, it said.
Considering the rapidly changing weather in mountainous areas and the demands of frontline duties, the uniforms have been fully upgraded for outdoor functionality, the agency said.
They use fabrics that absorb and release sweat, dry quickly and repel water, while also improving pockets, zippers and hoods to balance practicality with comfort, it said.

GLOBALGIVING: ‘ Caving to external pressure is not acceptable for an organization that has cultivated justice reform and human rights for 30 years,’ one NGO said A slew of non-government organizations (NGOs) have withdrawn from the GlobalGiving fundraising platform after it announced it would use “Chinese Taipei” instead of “Taiwan” from next month. The Taiwan Good Rice Association wrote on Facebook on Friday that it was informed on April 28 via a teleconference call of the change, which was made because the platform wanted to operate in China. Taiwan Good Rice is to terminate all cooperative relationships with GlobalGiving in response to the platform’s “unilateral and non-negotiable” decision to remove references to Taiwan, the NGO said. “Taiwan is in the official name of Taiwan Good Rice Association and the

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) yesterday briefed her party’s Central Standing Committee regarding her scheduled visit to the US between Monday next week and June 16, saying that her purpose would be to persuade the US that the Republic of China (ROC) Constitution was a “one China” constitution that would foster stable and peaceful cross-strait relations.
