A weather front is expected to bring rain and lower temperatures across Taiwan from today, with localized heavy rain possible in northern Taiwan and Yilan County, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
The CWA early today issued a heavy rain advisory as the approaching front could trigger intense short-duration rainfall across parts of Taiwan.
Mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan could also experience localized heavy rain this afternoon, the weather agency said.

Lightning, strong winds and flooding are possible in low-lying areas, the CWA said, warning residents in mountainous regions of possible landslides and river surges.
The fourth plum rain front of the season, which is bringing today’s rain, would likely weaken and move south tomorrow, bringing partly cloudy to sunny weather across Taiwan, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said.
Similar conditions are forecast for Sunday, though afternoon showers could still occur in mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan, Wu said.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Jangmi, located about 1,880km east-southeast of Oluanpi (鵝鑾鼻), Taiwan's southernmost point, as of 2pm yesterday, was moving northwest at 17kph but would gradually turn north and then head northeast, the CWA said.
Jangmi is expected to strengthen into a typhoon today or on Saturday and could come closest to Taiwan from Sunday to Monday next week as it moves near the Ryukyu Islands, though the likelihood of a direct impact remains low, the agency said.
However, the storm's outer cloud bands could bring localized rain to northern Taiwan and Yilan County on Monday and Tuesday, while afternoon thunderstorms could continue to develop in mountainous regions, the CWA said.
Daytime highs today are forecast to range from 28°C to 31°C in northern Taiwan, and Yilan and Hualien counties, and 32°C to 35°C in central and southern Taiwan and Taitung, the weather agency said.
Temperatures in inland areas in the south could rise to 36°C or 37°C, it said.
From Saturday through Tuesday, temperatures are expected to ease slightly, with highs of 29°C to 32°C in the north and east and 32°C to 33°C in central and southern Taiwan, the CWA said.
