The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a red heat warning for Tainan today, meaning daily maximum temperatures of 38°C for three consecutive days.
It also issued an orange alert for eight regions. The daily maximum temperature is expected to reach 38°C in Taipei and Pingtung County, while temperatures in Keelung, New Taipei City, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City and Kaohsiung are expected to hit 36°C for three consecutive days.
People in Tainan should avoid any outdoor activities and stay indoors, the CWA said.

People venturing outside should protect themselves from direct sun, stay hydrated and be aware of the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness, the weather agency added.
People in regions under an orange warning should avoid any unnecessary outdoor activities, work or exercise.
It also warned people to take precautions for groups at high risk of heat-related illnesses, such as the elderly, infants and those with chronic conditions.
