Mostly sunny to cloudy skies are today expected in Taiwan, but sporadic rain and thunderstorms are forecast for northern areas of the country this evening, as a weather front approaches, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
Showers are also forecast for eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), while a heavy rain advisory has been issued for Hualien County, warning of rainfall exceeding 80mm in 24 hours or 40mm in one hour, the weather agency said.
Daytime highs today are expected to reach about 26°C in northern Taiwan and exceed 30°C in central and southern regions, the CWA said, adding that temperatures would drop to about 18°C in the north in the evening, but remain above 20°C in the south.

Tomorrow, temperatures would fall slightly to 18°C to 23°C in northern Taiwan, while central and southern regions would report temperatures ranging from 19°C to 32°C, the CWA said.
Rain is expected to spread to central and eastern Taiwan, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, with possible afternoon showers in mountainous regions, it said.
Over the weekend, daytime highs in the north would rebound to 25°C 27°C, while large temperature swings would persist in central and southern Taiwan, ranging from 19°C to 31°C, the agency said.
Skies would be mostly sunny to cloudy across much of the nation over the weekend, though afternoon showers are likely in mountainous areas, the CWA added.
Isolated rain is on Saturday forecast for northern and eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula, moving to the east and south on Sunday, it said.
Similar conditions would prevail on Monday, before another weather front arrives on Tuesday, bringing rain to northern and eastern Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula and mountainous areas in the south, the CWA said.
