The Chunghwa Post Workers’ Union (CPWU) yesterday said that it would soon negotiate with the management of the state-run postal firm over a proposal to grant employees birthday leave.
The union made the proposal after Taiwan Railway Corp said it would implement the policy next month following multiple rounds of negotiations between the company’s management and the Taiwan Railway Labor Union.
CPWU president Lin Jung-chou (林榮洲) said that the union would negotiate with the company management next year about granting employees birthday leave.

Meanwhile, employees across different job levels who have worked at the postal firm for 15 or more years would get one extra day of annual paid leave.
Employees who are on extended leave for illness would receive a full salary during the first six months and half salary afterward, Lin said.
Chunghwa Post’s employee welfare fund is also expected to increase after the company estimated net profit after tax this year would reach NT$10 billion (US$317.66 million).
According to the union, workers would each receive NT$8,000 from the welfare fund next year, including NT$2,000 as a holiday allowance and NT$6,000 as a special allowance.
In addition to birthday leave, railway workers on the night shift would also see their late-night meal allowance rise to NT$400 from NT$120 starting next month.

The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency yesterday launched a gift box to market honey “certified by a Formosan black bear” in appreciation of a beekeeper’s amicable interaction with a honey-thieving bear. Beekeeper Chih Ming-chen (池明鎮) in January inspected his bee farm in Hualien County’s Jhuosi Township (卓溪) and found that more than 20 beehives had been destroyed and many hives were eaten, with bear droppings and paw prints near the destroyed hives, the agency said. Chih returned to the farm to move the remaining beehives away that evening when he encountered a Formosan black bear only 20m away, the agency said. The bear
