National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) and National Taiwan University (NTU) are jointly presenting a wide array of advanced medical technologies at this year’s Healthcare+ Expo Taiwan, highlighting their leadership in smart healthcare and interdisciplinary innovation.
Organized by the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI), the event brings together professionals from across the globe to explore the latest trends and the future of medical technology.
The expo opened yesterday and runs through Sunday at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.

NTUH is showcasing 11 breakthrough innovations aimed at elevating clinical care, while NTU is joining forces with partner universities to exhibit 10 diverse research achievements, underscoring academia’s strength and foresight in the healthcare sector.
In the field of cancer prevention and treatment, NTUH is introducing an oral cancer screening device powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that uses a smartphone camera to capture mucosal images and identify high-risk lesions in under two minutes with more than 95 percent accuracy.
This tool enables non-specialist medical staff to conduct rapid and reliable screenings, promoting early detection and widespread prevention.
Its AI platform for lung cancer diagnosis and prognosis integrates radiomics and clinical data to deliver personalized predictions and treatment recommendations, while also assessing tumor aggressiveness and metastasis risk.
For liver cancer, NTUH is presenting an AI model trained on data from 1,061 surgical cases to predict postoperative recurrence, achieving an Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic of 0.79 — currently the best-performing model — to support tailored follow-up strategies.
NTUH’s Department of Medical Imaging plays a pivotal role in smart healthcare by integrating AI-assisted diagnostics, optimized reporting systems, and augmented reality or virtual reality technologies for education, interventional procedures and surgical planning.
The OpVerse extended reality system creates interactive digital twin models of the lungs, allowing physicians to manipulate computed tomography images via extended reality headsets for precise lesion localization and enhanced thoracoscopic surgery planning.
In clinical care, the N-Portal nursing app streamlines workflows with features such as real-time communication, asset management and AI-based wound image analysis.
NTUH’s integrated digital bedside card and call bell system displays patient information and safety alerts instantly, accelerating emergency response and improving care quality.
Its Smart PUMP infusion system connects directly to the hospital’s information system, automatically downloading prescriptions and logging administration records, reducing medication errors and manual workload.
NTUH is also unveiling a pharmacogenomics and clinical decision support platform that combines next-generation sequencing, a comprehensive gene-drug database and a Clinical Decision Support System covering 22 key pharmacogenes. This enables intelligent prescribing and precision medication.
AQ-13 is a screening tool for autism developed through the integration of clinical data and AI technologies. With a screening accuracy of 82.3 percent, it utilizes machine learning algorithms to optimize item selection, significantly improving screening efficiency and enabling early detection and intervention.
The DeepEMR medical record exploration system integrates large language models and retrieval-augmented generation technology to assist in the deep analysis of vast amounts of data. It automatically organizes medical records, generates reports and structures research data, significantly enhancing the efficiency of medical decisionmaking.
NTU is collaborating with the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and Ming Chi University of Technology to present 10 innovative research projects, including AI learning systems, next-generation medical devices and precision diagnostics.
Led by the Global Industry Platform of NTU System, the team is integrating cross-campus technologies to improve industry-academia collaboration and drive national industrial development.
NTUH said that it remains committed to developing smart medical solutions and clinical applications that deliver more precise and efficient care.

Whether Japan would help defend Taiwan in case of a cross-strait conflict would depend on the US and the extent to which Japan would be allowed to act under the US-Japan Security Treaty, former Japanese minister of defense Satoshi Morimoto said. As China has not given up on the idea of invading Taiwan by force, to what extent Japan could support US military action would hinge on Washington’s intention and its negotiation with Tokyo, Morimoto said in an interview with the Liberty Times (sister paper of the Taipei Times) yesterday.
