Hundreds of people yesterday lined up at McDonald’s outlets as the fast-food chain brought back its milkshakes after a nine-year hiatus, launching a limited trial at 12 restaurants.
Some people began lining up as early as 7:30am to be among the first to purchase the drink and related limited-edition merchandise, with sales starting at 10:30am.
A woman from New Taipei City surnamed Hsu (徐) said that she arrived three hours early at a McDonald’s on Guanqian Road in Taipei’s Zhongzheng District (中正) that is running the promotion to secure a Grimace Fuzzy Bag and to buy four strawberry milkshakes for her family.

“I’m not sure if it tastes the same as before, so I’ll try them first. If they are good, I’ll buy more,” she said.
McDonald’s ended milkshake sales in Taiwan in November 2016 due to lower-than-expected demand, but the drink had a loyal following.
The returning version is available in vanilla and strawberry at the trial locations, with customers limited to a maximum of four milkshakes per transaction.
The launch also features two limited-edition items: Grimace Fuzzy Bags for NT$199 or NT$149 as a meal add-on, with a limit of four per purchase, and the Taiwan-exclusive Grimace Tote Bag for NT$59.
Although the McDonald’s Grimace is the centerpiece of the milkshake promotion, the berry-flavored Grimace shake is not available.
A small number of Taiwanese this year lost their citizenship rights after traveling in China and obtaining a one-time Chinese passport to cross the border into Russia, a source said today.
