Taiwan and the Philippines are to hold a "smart harbor" forum in Kaohsiung next month to promote cooperation between the southern Taiwan harbor and the Port of Subic Bay, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said today.
The Taiwan-Philippines smart harbor forum from Dec. 9 to 11 is to be joined by more than 30 representatives from the Philippines' public and private sectors, Department of International Cooperation and Economic Affairs Director Lien Yu-ping (連玉蘋) told a weekly briefing.

Invitations have been extended to the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and to local government officials from North Luzon, but the guest list has yet to be finalized, she said.
The Port of Subic Bay and Port of Kaohsiung are busy harbors situated in important geographical areas in the region, Lien said.
The forum is aimed at facilitating closer exchanges between them on digitalization, automation and uncrewed surface vehicles, she said.
It is part of the government's ongoing efforts to promote the so-called Taiwan-Philippines Economic Corridor, she added.
The project aligns with the Luzon Economic Corridor, launched by the Philippines, the US and Japan last year.
It also underscores joint efforts by Taiwan and the US to bolster cooperation in third countries and deepens Taiwan's strategic partnership with the Philippines, the ministry said.

Honnold, 40, was the first person ever to free solo climb the 900m El Capitan rock formation in Yosemite National Park — a feat that was recorded and later made into the 2018 documentary film Free Solo. Netflix previewed Skyscraper Live in October, after videos

A classified Pentagon-produced, multiyear assessment — the Overmatch brief — highlighted unreported Chinese capabilities to destroy US military assets and identified US supply chain choke points, painting a disturbing picture of waning US military might, a New York Times editorial published on Monday said. US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s comments in November last year that “we lose every time” in Pentagon-conducted war games pitting the US against China further highlighted the uncertainty about the US’ capability to intervene in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. “It shows the Pentagon’s overreliance on expensive, vulnerable weapons as adversaries field cheap, technologically
