Taiwan and Thailand are targeting a combined 2 million reciprocal visits this year, the Tourism Administration said today, as the Taiwan-Thailand Tourism Exchange Conference held its inaugural meeting in Taipei.
The annual tourism exchange platform was launched today by the Taiwan Visitors Association (TVA), the Association of Thai Travel Agents and the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA).
The conference focused on analyzing the tourism market, exploring new visions for festival tourism and sharing experiences in urban and cultural tourism, the TVA said in a news release.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communication is to launch new incentives to achieve the target of a combined 2 million reciprocal visits, Tourism Administration Deputy Director-General Huang He-ting (黃荷婷) said.
It is to work with airlines to increase capacity and passenger loads, continuing its promotional efforts since visa-free entry was implemented for Thai nationals in 2016 and a representative office was established in Bangkok in 2017, she said.
There are currently 194 weekly direct flights between Taiwan and Thailand, which shows potential growth in reciprocal visits, TVA chairwoman Yeh Chu-lan (葉菊蘭) said.
The conference is to bring the two countries together for the next stage of development, TTAA director Charoen Wangananont said.
At the conference, attendees agreed to strengthen exchanges to facilitate greater cooperation, introduce tourist attractions, develop innovative products, increase flights and capacity, and boost mutual visits to exceed 2 million, the TVA said.
The next conference is to be held next year in Bangkok.

MOTIVES QUESTIONED The PLA considers Xi’s policies toward Taiwan to be driven by personal considerations rather than military assessment, the Epoch Times reports Chinese President Xi Jinping’s (習近平) latest purge of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) leadership might have been prompted by the military’s opposition to plans of invading Taiwan, the Epoch Times said. The Chinese military opposes waging war against Taiwan by a large consensus, putting it at odds with Xi’s vision, the Falun Gong-affiliated daily said in a report on Thursday, citing anonymous sources with insight into the PLA’s inner workings. The opposition is not the opinion of a few generals, but a widely shared view among the PLA cadre, the Epoch Times cited them as saying. “Chinese forces know full well that
