Haiti’s foreign minister has arrived in Taiwan for his first visit to the country since taking office in January, and he is to meet with President William Lai (賴清德) to enhance bilateral ties, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, leading a five-member delegation that includes his wife, Tatiana Florencio Silva Jean-Baptiste, and his chief of staff, Claude Jeudy, arrived at Taoyuan International Airport yesterday morning.
They were welcomed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺).

Jean-Baptiste’s visit also aims to reaffirm the Caribbean ally’s support for bilateral diplomatic relations, the ministry said.
Aside from meeting Lai at the Presidential Office today, Jean-Baptiste is to hold talks with his Taiwanese counterpart, Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), to discuss shared concerns and bilateral cooperation projects, the ministry said.
The Haitian delegation is to visit the Southern Taiwan Science Park in Tainan, Chi Mei Medical Center, the National Palace Museum and Taipei 101, and is to meet with Haitian recipients of Taiwanese government scholarships, it said.
Haiti, one of Taiwan’s 12 diplomatic allies, has faced ongoing gang violence and social unrest since the assassination of former president Jovenel Moise at his home in July 2021.
Chinese spouse and influencer Guan Guan’s (關關) residency permit has been revoked for repeatedly posting pro-China videos that threaten national security, the National Immigration Agency confirmed today. The Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau audited six hotels in an effort to prevent price gouging ahead of Korean band BTS’ concert tour in the city scheduled for Nov. 19, 21 and 22 this year. The military yesterday said it has located the flight data recorder, or black box, of an F-16V jet that disappeared off eastern Taiwan earlier this month, and it would soon deploy a salvage team to try to retrieve it. Air Force Command Headquarters said that while it had pinned down the location of the black box, it was still searching for the aircraft’s sole pilot, air force Captain Hsin Po-yi (辛柏毅).
