The Central Weather Administration (CWA) yesterday issued heat alerts for several areas across Taiwan, warning of temperatures of around 36°C and the possibility of prolonged thunderstorms today and tomorrow.
At 6:29pm, the CWA issued an orange alert for Taipei, New Taipei City, Tainan and Kaohsiung, and Changhua and Yunlin counties, indicating maximum temperatures of 36°C or higher for three consecutive days.
In New Taipei City, the Quchi area in Xindian District (新店) recorded highs of 37.4°C on Monday and Tuesday, and 36.6°C yesterday, CWA data showed.

The temperatures in Quchi on Monday and yesterday were the highest in Taiwan.
The CWA also issued a yellow alert for Pingtung and Hualien counties today, meaning temperatures of 36°C or higher are forecast.
Guangfu Township (光復) in Hualien matched the day's high of 36.6°C yesterday.
Hot weather is forecast around Taiwan and its outlying counties for the next seven days, with partly clear to partly cloudy skies, CWA forecaster Huang En-hung (黃恩鴻) said.
Daytime highs in Taiwan, and Kinmen and Penghu counties are likely to reach 32°C to 35°C, and 31°C in Lienchiang County (Matsu), the CWA said.
People should be aware of the possibility of prolonged afternoon thunderstorms today and tomorrow, as well as heavy rain in the south and in mountainous areas in central and northern Taiwan, Huang said.
The CWA issued a heavy rain advisory for western Taiwan, including Keelung and Pingtung County, but excluding Hsinchu City.
People should be alert for lightning, sudden surges in river water levels, falling rocks or floods that could be caused by accumulated rainfall of more than 80mm in a 24-hour period or hourly rainfall exceeding 40mm, the CWA said.
Three Taiwanese airlines have prohibited passengers from packing Bluetooth earbuds and their charger cases in checked luggage. EVA Air and Uni Air said that Bluetooth earbuds and charger cases are categorized as portable electronic devices, which should be switched off if they are placed in checked luggage based on international aviation safety regulations. Foreign travelers entering Taiwan on a short layover via Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport are receiving NT$600 gift vouchers from yesterday, the Tourism Administration said, adding that it hopes the incentive would boost tourism consumption at the airport.
