Taipei yesterday was named the Muslim Women-friendly City Destination of the Year by CrescentRating at its 2025 Halal in Travel Awards in Singapore.
Taipei Department of Information and Tourism Secretary-General Shen Yung-hua (沈永華) accepted the award on behalf of the city government, the department said.
CrescentRating — which is "the world's leading authority on halal-friendly travel," according to its Web site — said in a statement that Taiwan was fourth in the Global Muslim Travel Index among destinations that are not members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The ranking reflects the city's efforts to create a diverse, inclusive and safe environment for Muslim travelers, the department said.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) said that the Destination of the Year award represents international recognition of the Muslim-friendly efforts of the capital, following its recognition in 2023 as the Most Promising Muslim-friendly City Destination of the Year among destinations that are not OIC members.
Taipei is committed to being a "diverse and inclusive city," Chiang said.
Deparment Director Yu Hsiang (余祥) said that Taipei has promoted a Muslim-friendly Attractions and Accommodations Guidance Program since 2019, as well as helping nearly 100 establishments become certified as “Muslim-friendly” under the program.
The department also has a Halal Travel Guide section on its Web site, with information available in Indonesian and other languages, Yu said.
The department plans to lead tourism industry representatives to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore late next month to promote Taipei tourism, she said.
