Construction on the northern section of Taoyuan Airport’s Terminal 3 is expected to finish in September, with the terminal going online by the end of the year, Taoyuan International Airport Corp said today.
This comes after recent comments from the National Development Council and Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) indicating that the terminal would be opened in stages and go into use this year.
Li Chi (李奇), a director at the council, said he hoped the new terminal would be operational prior to Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, giving travelers eight new boarding gates and reducing the use of airport shuttle buses.

However, that plan might be delayed, as Chen said in a radio interview yesterday that the terminal would open by the end of the year.
Although the main structural work is complete, workers are still installing equipment, furnishing the interior and connecting utilities, Taoyuan International Airport Corp said.
Terminal 3 needs rigorous system verification tests to ensure that it is closely integrated with the airport’s operations, the company said.
Personnel also need to be trained in security measures, boarding procedures and route arrangements, it added.
To meet the government’s goals of opening eight new boarding gates by the end of the year, the company would accelerate system integration tests, inspections and training, it said.
Work on Terminal 3 began in June 2021, and the full terminal is scheduled to be completed in 2027, the company said.
China Airlines, EVA Airways and Starlux would use Terminal 3, it said, adding that the north and south boarding halls would be scheduled flexibly, allowing for foreign airlines to use them and maximizing travelers’ convenience.
With regards to plans to build another runway, the project is under way, although the deadline to obtain all the necessary land was pushed back to December next year, it said.
