Magnitude 5 to 5.5 aftershocks are expected over the next three days, after an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Hualien County at 7pm yesterday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
The quake's epicenter was at sea, about 69.9km south of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 30.9km, the CWA said yesterday.
There were no immediate reports of damage.

The earthquake was caused by a collision of the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate, CWA Seismological Center Director Wu Chien-fu (吳健富) said.
As it was classified as a shallow quake, but had a strong magnitude, it was felt across nearly all of Taiwan, Wu said.
