The first group of lawmakers from the European Parliament visiting Taiwan this year is set to meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and other senior officials during their five-day trip.
The delegation, led by a vice president of the Renew Europe political group, Ivars Ījabs from Latvia, also consists of Hannes Heide of Austria, Arkadiusz Mularczyk from Poland and Vladimir Prebilič from Slovenia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today.

Aside from meeting with Hsiao, the members are also to meet with other government officials, lawmakers and local non-governmental organizations to exchange views on Taiwan-EU relations, geopolitics and technological innovation, the ministry said in a news release.
The delegation is visiting Taiwan from yesterday through Friday, it said.
The ministry said it welcomed the group's visit and thanked the European Parliament for supporting Taiwan, including passing recent resolutions that raised concerns over China's escalation of tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
It also expressed support for further deepening the Taiwan-EU partnership.
The ministry was referring to the passage of resolutions on Jan. 30 by the European Parliament on annual reports on the implementation of the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defence Policy.
Eight Chinese naval vessels and 24 military aircraft were detected crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait between 6am yesterday and 6am today, the Ministry of National Defense said this morning. The aircraft entered Taiwan’s northern, central, southwestern and eastern air defense identification zones, the ministry said.
