The northern section of the New Taipei MRT Circular (Yellow) Line is expected to be completed by 2031, facilitating travel between Lujhou (蘆洲) and Sindian (新店) districts, New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) said yesterday.
When the section from New Taipei Industrial Park Station in Sinjhuang District (新莊) to Jiannan Road Station in Taipei’s Zhongshan District (中山) is completed, people will be able to travel between Lujhou and Sindian without changing trains, Hou said during an inspection of the section’s depot, which is under construction.
Work on the northern section has reached 25.82 percent completion, 6.63 percentage points ahead of schedule, the Taipei Department of Rapid Transit Systems said in a statement.

The department is supervising the project.
The northern section is to be 14.93km long with 12 underground stations and one depot, the department’s Web site says.
The depot is being built underground, with its ground level to be an ecopark, the New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems said.
A workshop and control center are planned for the depot, the New Taipei City department said, adding that excavation depths would be up to 22.32m.
Once the northern section is completed, trains would be able to run every 3.5 minutes at most, Hou said.
The Circular Line’s western section was opened in 2020. It runs between Dapinglin Station in Sindian and New Taipei Industrial Park Station.
The eastern (between Jiannan Road and Taipei Zoo stations) and southern (between Taipei Zoo and Dapinglin stations) sections are under construction.
