This year’s Taipei Marathon, which has obtained its first gold label certification from World Athletics, is to be held from 5am to 1pm tomorrow and would have 28,000 participants.
The race is to start from the Taipei City Plaza and would go through major roads throughout the city, with traffic control implemented from 6am to 2pm, officials said.
The Taipei Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and New Taipei City MRT Circle line would start operating at 5am on the day of the race, they said.

The race would cover Renai Road, Xinyi Road, Hangzhou S Road, Aiguo east and west roads, Zhonghua Road, Zhongxiao W Road, Chongqing S Road, Ketagalan Boulevard, Zhongshan S Road, Zhongshan N Road, Xian Road, Mingshui Road, Lequn Road Section 1, Tiding Boulevard, Huangdong Boulevard, Second MacArthur Bridge, First MacArthur Bridge, Tayou Road, Nanjing E Road Sec 4 and Nanjing E Road Sec 5, they said.
The race would also include the bicycle lanes of Nanhu Left Bank Riverside Park, Chengmei Left Bank Riverside Park, Yingfeng Riverside Park and Guanshan Riverside Park.
These roads would be partially or fully closed to vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians at certain times, as published on the Taipei Marathon Web site at www.taipeicitymarathon.com/traffic-ex.php.
The public should follow the instructions of traffic police and volunteer traffic wardens, and listen to Police Broadcasting Service personnel, officials said.
Drivers going in the east-west direction may use the slow lane on Renai Road, or take Zhongxiao E Road or Xinyi Road instead, while those in the north-south direction should avoid Renai Road and make use of Zhongshan S Road, Jianguo Elevated Road or the Keelung Road underpass.
The Taipei MRT would be opening its doors early tomorrow to decrease Blue Line train intervals to between eight and 15 minutes, and the Brown Line train intervals to between six and 10 minutes from 5am to 6am.
Train intervals on all other lines would be reduced to between 10 and 20 minutes during the same period that day.
Train intervals would return to normal after 6am.
Operating hours for the Xiaobitan and Xinbeitou branch lines would not change, officials said.
The Taipei Public Transportation Office said road closures might double the travel time of city buses, and passengers are advised to plan their rides accordingly or to take the MRT as an alternative.
The marathon is expected to affect 202 bus lines encompassing 428 bus stops, it said.

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck eastern Taiwan's Hualien County at 2:23pm today, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The epicenter of the temblor was 5.4 kilometers northeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 34.9 km, according to the CWA. The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was the highest in Hualien County, where it measured 2 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale.
