Contracts to produce certain components of the military’s new generation of automatic rifle have been terminated, after an Israeli company accused the contractors of using unauthorized technology, the Ministry of National Defense said yesterday.
The military’s 205th Armory was entrusted with awarding contracts for components of the updated T112 rifle, the ministry said in an evening news release.
The specifications required the magazine loader to be of a quality equivalent to those manufactured by the Israeli company Maglula or other comparable firms, it said.

However, after samples were released earlier this year, Maglula filed a complaint that certain contractors had used proprietary technology, it said.
“To avoid subsequent infringement concerns and contract disputes, the tenders have been annulled,” the ministry said.
The announcement came after local media reported that Maglula’s lawyers in Taiwan had sent a formal notice to the 205th Armory claiming that contractors had used unauthorized technology in samples of the magazine loader and recoil booster for the domestically produced T112 rifle.

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) yesterday confirmed that Chinese students visiting Taiwan at the invitation of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation were almost all affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). During yesterday’s meeting convened by the legislature’s Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Michelle Lin (林楚茵) asked whether the visit was a way to spread China’s so-called “united front” rhetoric, to which MAC Deputy Ministry Shen You-chung (沈有忠) responded with the CCP comment. The MAC noticed that the Chinese individuals visiting Taiwan, including those in sports, education, or religion, have had increasingly impressive backgrounds, demonstrating that the
