A woman who allegedly attacked a high-school student with a utility knife, injuring his face, on a Taipei metro train late on Friday has been transferred to prosecutors, police said yesterday.
The incident occurred near MRT Xinpu Station at about 10:17pm on a Bannan Line train headed toward Dingpu, New Taipei City police said.
Before police arrived at the station to arrest the suspect, a woman surnamed Wang (王) who is in her early 40s, she had already been subdued by four male passengers, one of whom was an off-duty Taipei police officer, police said.

The student, 17, who sustained a cut about 3cm long on his face, was taken to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital for treatment and was in stable condition after his injury was bandaged by emergency medical personnel at the scene, police said.
The student said he did not know Wang, police added.
Witnesses wrote on social media that many people were screaming, running and falling over in the train car during the attack, and that the scene “resembled a zombie movie.”
Wang is a repeat offender who had previously been involved in arguments at MRT stations, Chinese-language newspaper the United Daily News said.
She was suspected to have been having auditory hallucinations and allegedly attacked the student after she thought he had spoken ill of her, the newspaper reported.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that struck off the coast of eastern Taiwan yesterday was an independent event and part of a stress-adjustment process. The earthquake occurred at 4:47pm, with its epicenter at sea about 45.4km south of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 5.9km, the CWA said.
