Representative to the US Alexander Yui delivered a letter from the government to US president-elect Donald Trump during a meeting with a former Trump administration official, CNN reported yesterday.
Yui on Thursday met with former US national security adviser Robert O’Brien over a private lunch in Salt Lake City, Utah, with US Representative Chris Stewart, the Web site of the US cable news channel reported, citing three sources familiar with the matter.
“During that lunch the letter was passed along, and then shared with Trump, two of the sources said,” CNN said.

O’Brien declined to comment on the lunch, as did the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office, Taiwan’s de facto embassy in the US, it said.
“The quiet delivery serves as a stark contrast to the controversial phone call” between then-president-elect Trump and then-president Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) after the 2016 elections, CNN said.
On Dec. 2, 2016, Tsai had a 10-minute telephone call with Trump during which she congratulated him on his election victory.
That call was the first time a Taiwanese president had directly spoken with a US president-elect since official diplomatic ties between the two nations were severed in 1979.

A cold surge advisory was today issued for 18 cities and counties across Taiwan, with temperatures of below 10°C forecast during the day and into tonight, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. New Taipei City, Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu, Miaoli and Yilan counties are expected to experience sustained temperatures of 10°C or lower, the CWA said. Temperatures are likely to temporarily drop below 10°C in most other areas, except Taitung, Pingtung, Penghu and Lienchiang (Matsu) counties, CWA data showed. The cold weather is being caused by a strong continental cold air mass, combined with radiative cooling, a process in which heat escapes from
