Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) on Wednesday called on residents to conserve water, as reservoirs are running low amid sparse spring rains.
A water supply alert has been issued, Huang said, adding that the ongoing plum rain season would hopefully bring more rainfall through next month.
The Central Weather Administration has predicted an average or less-than-average amount of rain this spring with temperatures verging on the higher end of normal.

As of 11am on Wednesday, the Zengwen Reservoir (曾文水庫), which is mainly used for irrigation, was at 31.39 percent capacity, according to the southern branch of the Water Resources Agency.
The Wushantou Reservoir (烏山頭水庫) was at 66.34 percent capacity.
The Nanhua Reservoir (南化水庫), which mainly supplies residential and industrial needs, was at 29.59 percent capacity.
More than half of the bamboo vipers captured in Tainan in the past few years were found in the city’s Sinhua District (新化), while other districts had smaller catches or none at all. The first bluefin tuna of the season, brought to shore in Pingtung County and weighing 190kg, was yesterday auctioned for NT$10,600 (US$333.5) per kilogram, setting a record high for the local market.
