US Representative Michael McCaul, chairman of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, is scheduled to lead a delegation to Taiwan on Thursday, a person familiar with the issue said on Saturday.
The eight-person delegation, comprising several committee members, has departed for Japan and is to visit South Korea before arriving in Taipei, the person said.
The South Korean Yonhap News Agency said the delegation is to visit Seoul on Wednesday and Thursday, and is scheduled to meet with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to discuss further cooperation in response to escalating threats from North Korea.

The group is to arrive at Taipei International Airport (Songshan airport) on a chartered flight for a visit arranged by the American Institute in Taiwan, the source said.
Neither Taiwan nor the US has confirmed the trip.
The delegation might meet with high-ranking Taiwanese military officers to gain first-hand insight into the cross-strait situation, the person said.
The group might also meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Saturday, a day after she returns from a trip to Central America, the source added.
