A Kaohsiung man accused of threatening Taipei City Councilor Wang Hung-wei (王鴻薇) was yesterday released on NT$50,000 bail after being questioned by prosecutors.
Wang, the Chinese Nationalist Party’s (KMT) candidate for a legislative by-election in Taipei’s third electoral district, on Wednesday said that her office assistant on Tuesday received a telephone call warning Wang not to talk about gangs or else he might “fire a gun.”

Wang has accused the Democratic Progressive Party’s Enoch Wu (吳怡農), her sole opponent in the by-election set for Jan. 8, of having close links with gangsters.
Tsai has a criminal record for making threats, but does not belong to any political party, police said.
He said that he made the threatening phone call, because he was unhappy with Wang’s remarks and had differing political views, police added.
Wang thanked police for solving the case and apprehending the suspect within 24 hours of receiving the report, adding that this put her and her election campaign staff at ease.
