The 10th annual Spring Wave Music and Art Festival is to be moved from Pingtung County’s Kenting Township (墾丁) to Dajia Riverside Park in Taipei.
The festival has been held in Kenting in spring for the past nine years, hosting performances by famous artists and bands in Taiwan, and attracting more than 10,000 people each year.
Tickets for this year’s festival went on sale on Monday.
However, because the Pingtung County Government no longer agrees to have the event held at Hengchun Airport, and other appropriate venues could not be found within Kenting National Park, the event organizer has decided to stage the event in Taipei this year.
Shen Kuan-yuan (沈光遠), general manager of Friendly Dog Entertainment and organizer of the event, said they could not find an appropriate venue in Kenting, for this year, but they hope to return to Kenting for future festivals.
In light of the dust explosion and subsequent fire at the Formosa Fun Coast (八仙海岸) water park in New Taipei City’s Bali District (八里) on June 27 last year, the county government said that evacuation routes at the airport were not sufficient for an event with so many people and asked the organizer to look for other suitable venues.
Shen said the Kenting National Park Headquarters refused a proposal to hold the event in one of several venues within the park, citing ecological maintenance reasons, and the Pingtung County Council also decided to charge an additional NT$100 environmental safety maintenance fee for each ticket sold.

Former president Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Monday called for greater cooperation between Taiwan, Lithuania and the EU to counter threats to information security, including attacks on undersea cables and other critical infrastructure. In a speech at Vilnius University in the Lithuanian capital, Tsai highlighted recent incidents in which vital undersea cables — essential for cross-border data transmission — were severed in the Taiwan Strait and the Baltic Sea over the past year. Taiwanese authorities suspect Chinese sabotage in the incidents near Taiwan’s waters, while EU leaders have said Russia is the likely culprit behind similar breaches in the Baltic. “Taiwan and our European
