By Oct. 31st the TAITRA noted that 260 international buyers from 56 countries had pre-registered. Encouraging R&D of new products at the frontier of biotech
Through the selection of original products in the "Award of Innovative Products contest held in MEDIPHAR, the organizer hopes to signify the R&D capability of medical manufacturers in Taiwan and help to spearhead the medical industry into the international market. Among 39 works registered by 25 manufacturers for the Award, there are 9 manufacturers nominated.
These products include the non-contact IR dry-eye diagnostic system created by last year's Award winner, United Integrated Services Co, Ltd. That reduces discomfort caused by dry-eyes. There's also a telehealthcare system that is used to treat patients with diabetics and high blood pressure. That system by TaiDoc Technology combines popular zigbee telecommunication and telecare and can adequately meet the large demand for care of the elderly in Taiwan.

Medical Equipment Industry to achieved huge growth in year-end show
With the aging global population comes a survey by the poll agency, Espicom Business Intelligence, that estimates that the global market for medical equipment prior to 2010 will grow at a rapid annual compound rate of 5.2%. The same study projects that total market value will increase from US$164.3 billion in 2006 to US$201.6 billion in 2010. According to the import & export statistics from customs, it is estimated that the total export forecast for the medical equipment industry in Taiwan in 2007 will reach NT$29.5 billion, a growth by 10.1% compared to that in 2006.
Meanwhile total imports will also reach NT$39.4 billion, an increase by 5.4% in a market valued at NT$64 billion. Judging from the industrial performance in the first half of 2007, the number of purchase orders for medical electronics such as power wheelchairs, power scooters, contact lenses, digital blood pressure meters, and other medical equipment products from Taiwan has shown increases in international sales, indicating that Taiwan's medical equipment industry has shifted from manufacturing and producing medical consumables in the past to creating home care products. It is expected that MEDIPHAR, the grand event in the medical world in 2007, will definitely drive the industry toward further growth and boundless opportunity.

A signaling system malfunction disrupted high-speed rail (HSR) services beginning at 8am today, with trains temporarily reduced to three northbound and three southbound trains per hour as authorities conduct inspections. The malfunction occurred on a section of track in Miaoli County during pre-operation checks early this morning, forcing northbound and southbound trains to use a single track, the HSR operator said. Taiwan is still in the process of assessing the possibility of recruiting workers from Eswatini, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday, adding that its goal is to help Eswatini upgrade its vocational training centers. If there are plans to recruit workers from Eswatini, safeguarding national security, protecting public health and ensuring the employment rights of Taiwanese would be prerequisites, Department of West Asian and African Affairs Director-General Yen Chia-liang (顏嘉良) told a news conference. A US uncrewed surface vessel (USV) encountered multiple Chinese warships during an autonomous transit of the Taiwan Strait, US defense company Seasats said in a statement on Wednesday. Seasats announced that a Lightfish USV had completed the first autonomous transit of the Taiwan Strait. Over five days, the USV traversed the entire length of the Strait while constantly monitoring surface vessel traffic, the company said.
