Houston right-hander Teng Kai-wei, the only Taiwanese pitcher active in the MLB, on Friday recorded a no decision after allowing three runs over five innings in the Astros’ 5-4, 10-innings loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Teng, who won his previous two starts, struck out seven while giving up three hits and four walks. Of his 91 pitches, 53 were strikes.
The Astros opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Cam Smith, his sixth of the season. It marked the third consecutive game started by Teng in which Houston scored first.

The Brewers answered in the following inning when David Hamilton launched a solo shot to left field to tie the game.
Houston regained the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs with the help of a walk, two doubles, a sacrifice fly and a throwing error.
Teng entered the fifth inning having thrown 67 pitches and quickly recorded two outs on a groundout and a strikeout. However, he then walked Christian Yelich before Jackson Chourio hit a two-run homer to deep center field to cut the Astros’ lead to 4-3.
After issuing another walk, Teng retired William Contreras on one pitch to end the inning and complete his outing.
Teng did not return for the sixth inning. He is now 3-3 with a 2.57 ERA this season.
Teng was in line for the win before the Brewers tied the game at 4-4. Milwaukee then scored the winning run in the 10th inning.
Also on Friday, the Cleveland Guardians called up outfielder Stuart Fairchild, who was born to a Taiwanese mother and represented Taiwan at the World Baseball Classic in March.
The move came after the Guardians placed outfielder Steven Kwan on the bereavement/family medical emergency list for a leave of three to seven days.
Greek swimmer Kristian Gkolomeev was the only athlete to “beat” a world record on Sunday at the Enhanced Games, winning the men’s 50m freestyle at the divisive competition where athletes were free to take performance-enhancing substances. His time of 20.81 seconds — which is not considered official — came in the final event of the night in Las Vegas, sparing the blushes of organizers who made claims that multiple world records would be surpassed due to a sophisticated doping regime. Gkolomeev, who was wearing a synthetic “supersuit” long banned at events such as the Olympics, outpaced Australia’s Cameron McEvoy’s 20.88 set in
