Cam York on Wednesday flicked a wrist-shot for an overtime winner that ignited a Flyers’ celebration 14 years in the making to chase away years of bad hockey in Philadelphia.
He slithered free from the mob of exuberant teammates and chucked his stick deep into the stands and watched it soar, only no one was really sure in the moment where it landed.
“I hope everyone’s OK,” York said with a laugh. “Definitely don’t want a lawsuit. Just honestly blacked out. I didn’t know what to do. I was so excited.”

York snapped the tension and a scoreless tie, burying the winner 17:32 into overtime and sending the Flyers into the second round for the first time in six years with a 1-0 Game 6 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Flyers are set for a second-round showdown against the Carolina Hurricanes.
“Just tried to put it there,” York said. “We knew that it was going to be a greasy one. It felt really good to see that one go in.”
Dan Vladar stopped all 42 shots and prevented the Penguins from playing for a shot at playoff history.
Sidney Crosby and the Penguins tried to become just the fifth team in NHL history to win a series after trailing 3-0. They won two straight to force Game 6.
Arturs Silovs made 31 saves.
“We were a shot away from going back to Pittsburgh for Game 7,” Crosby said. “It comes down to bounces sometimes. Putting yourself in that position is tough. I think we all had a lot of belief we could dig ourselves out of it.”
Elsewhere, the Montreal Canadiens beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 to take a 3-2 lead, while the Vegas Golden Knights pipped the Utah Mammoth 5-4 in overtime to take a 3-2 lead.
