Tazmin Brits on Monday cracked a brilliant century as South Africa spoiled New Zealand’s Suzie Bates’ record 350th international appearance with a six-wicket victory in their Women’s Cricket World Cup match.
Brits hit 101 off 89 balls with 15 fours and a six — her fourth century in five one-day internationals — to help South Africa chase a 232-run target in 40.5 overs at Holkar Stadium in Indore, India.
Left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba grabbed 4-40 as New Zealand were bowled out for 231 in 47.5 overs, with Bates dismissed off the very first ball of the match by pacer Marizanne Kapp.

Bates, 38, became the first woman to play 350 internationals — 173 one-days in addition to 177 T20s — in a glorious career.
The win revived South Africa’s campaign after they were shot out for 69 in their 1--wicket defeat to England in Guwahati on Friday last week.
New Zealand, the reigning Twenty20 world champions, have lost both their matches following their 89-run loss against title-holders Australia.
Brits shared a solid 159-run second-wicket stand with Sune Luus, who hit the winning runs during her unbeaten 83 studded with 10 fours and a six.
South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt praised the comeback.
“It is such an amazing turnaround,” Wolvaardt said. “This is what we knew we were capable of, really happy of how quickly we put that behind us and bounced back today.”
New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine admitted the defeat has put the team in a tough position.
“We have to win a lot of games now, “ Devine said. “This puts a bit more pressure on the remaining games. We know exactly where we stand and what we have to do.”
Earlier, New Zealand — who won the toss and batted — rode on Devine’s 98-ball 85 in her 300th international, atoning for her long-time friend Bates’ failure.
Devine and Georgia Plimmer (31) lifted New Zealand from a precarious 44-2 with a 57-run stand for the third wicket, while Brooke Halliday (45) added a further 86 with her skipper, but they lost their last seven wickets for a mere 44 runs as Mlaba dismissed Devine in an incisive spell.
Devine hit nine fours.
A seven-year-old horse had to be euthanized on Friday after breaking its back on the final fence of a Grand National steeplechase race that it won despite sustaining the serious injury. It follows the death of four horses at the Cheltenham Festival last month — including one after the prestigious Gold Cup. Gold Dancer was competing in the Mildmay Novices’ Chase during Ladies Day at Aintree’s Grand National Festival. The horse managed to cross the finish line approximately four lengths ahead of runner-up Regent’s Stroll. “The winner of our second race of the day, Gold Dancer, was pulled up after

His closest competitor was Milad Karimi of Kazakhstan, who finished second with 14.933 points. It was Tang’s third gold medal in the FIG World Cup series this year, following his horizontal bar wins in Azerbaijan on March 8, and in Turkey on March
The Daredevils yesterday took eight catches in the final as they eked out a victory in the Taiwan Cricket Triangular Tournament against PCCT at Yingfeng Cricket Ground in Taipei’s Songshan District. PCCT’s batting lineup collapsed after they asked the Daredevils to bowl in the T20 decider of the weekend tournament that also involved the Formosa Cricket Club. PCCT were bundled out for 76 in 16.2 overs against a disciplined Daredevils attack. Ninad Malwade was the top scorer in the innings with 21, but he was among those who offered chances to the fielders. Shane Ferreira and Jason Cameron took three wickets each, with
This year’s Taiwan Athletics Open, which offers Taiwanese athletes an opportunity to compete against their international peers, would be held under a new name after its organizers had earlier announced the event’s cancelation. In a statement issued yesterday, the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association said the competition would still take place on June 6-7 at Banciao Stadium, but under the name “New Taipei City Athletics Open 2026.” The event was given a new name to emphasize its local identity and conform with the international practice of naming World Athletics Tour events after cities, the association said. It said it would soon
